LED lighting gives Herbal Sauna Soesterberg an upgrade

In the heart of the wooded surroundings of Soesterberg, in the Netherlands, a brand new wellness resort opened its doors in 2017: Thermen Soesterberg. An oasis of tranquility, with multiple swimming and plunge pools and an impressive range of saunas on the theme of nature. Visitors can immerse themselves in the warmth of, among others, the wood-fired Maa sauna, the Crystal sauna and the atmospheric Herbal sauna, where natural herbs provide a fragrant, relaxing experience.

For the last mentioned sauna, Thermen Soesterberg faced a challenge: The old LED lighting needed replacing. Half of the lights were no longer working, and there was a need for a durable, reliable solution that could withstand the extreme conditions of a sauna. Aquavidi was called in with a clear mission: lighting that not only lasts, but also contributes to the atmosphere and experience.

The right solution for extreme circumstances

Mark van den Berg, Head of Technical Services at Thermen Soesterberg, explains, “We were specifically looking for a supplier within the Netherlands, because the sauna builder from Germany was now bankrupt and the old LED lines were breaking down quickly.”

It was via via that Mark came into contact with Aquavidi. It soon became clear that their Sauna Flexglo LED line was the perfect solution. “Aquavidi told an honest story, and gave good guarantees in terms of minimum lifespan, among other things. The mutual contact was very pleasant and the lighting they recommended exactly matched the look we had in mind.”

Resistant to heat and moisture

Designed specifically for saunas, the Flexglo LED lighting can handle extreme conditions with ease: temperatures of up to 110°C and humidity of 100%. Thanks to its minimal installation size, the lighting could be subtly concealed in a cove in the ceiling, creating an atmospheric and soothing effect.

Moreover, the lighting is fully customizable and available in all color schemes, including RGBW. This offers both atmosphere and functionality: during cleaning activities, it is easy to switch to bright white light.

“With the old lighting, you could see the loose dots of light from the LEDs,” says Mark. “Aquavidi's lighting is much more even and gives a calming effect. That's why we are now looking together at new lighting for our pool.”
